VFW Military History Museum
The VFW Military History Museum is open to the general public and it welcomes Veterans and Active Military from all the Armed Services. Veterans can come and see displays of WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. The Museum also has a few items on the current War on Terrorism, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Present military personnel ending their active duty can meet with the VFW Post 10049 Service Officer on Wednesdays from 12:00 noon till 3:00 pm and initiate registration with the Veterans Administration or work on completing ongoing paperwork and documentation on claims.
The main purpose of the Museum is educational; reaching out to the young and adults alike and enriching both groups on the importance of our military history from the birth of our Nation to the present War on Terrorism.
Local high school and elementary school students visit the VFW Museum frequently, either on a history class project or out of historical interest and leave in awe, having learned something new. Teachers often ask our directors for a lecturer to come and address their classes. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10049 hosts an impressive display at the Museum of Military History Posters and Memorabilia.
There are hundreds of military posters and historical artifacts on display that have been graciously provided by local Veterans and collectors. There are Vietnam era weapons on display, munitions and military gear from all eras. 100-year old posters, WWII era newspapers, uniforms and much more provide a historical sequence of events.
Several Vietnam Veterans volunteer their time to give tours to the visiting public.
